#24in48: July 2017

Hour Zero: Intro

1. I am reading from the Sunshine State this weekend.

2. I tried to participate in #24in48 earlier in the year. I did not log very many hours that first time. Here’s to second chances!

3. I heard about #24in48 from either Instagram or Book Riot.

4. I am excited to finish Present Over Perfect by Shauna Niequist. I am also excited to pick up Sick in the Head by Judd Apatow and Hunger by Roxanne Gay.

5. It doesn’t feel like summer to me if I am not reading a ton of books, resting by the water, or munching on boatloads of fruit.

Meal Plan for Week of 05/01/2017

Breakfasts of the Week:
Scrambled Eggs
Protein Smoothies
Also, try Siggi’s yogurt. It is worth the splurge.

Protein Pancakes


Pro Tips: Mix ingredients in a blender instead of mashing banana by hand. You can use any protein powder. Also, you can make these in advance. Freeze and warm in a toaster.

Lunches of the Week:

We are continuing to have a salad a day to feel the weight gain away!

Sesame Chicken Salad- Chicken, Sesame Seeds, Cucumber, Shredded Carrot, Scallions
BLT Salad- Hard-boiled Eggs, Bacon, Cherry Tomatoes, a little Avocado
Goat Cheese Salad- Mixed Berries, Goat Cheese Medallions, Dried Cranberries, and Almonds

I try to alternate my proteins usually, but this week has gone to the birds.

Monday- Leftovers, I didn’t get to making all of the meals I had planned last week so I am catching up.

Tuesday- Creamy Garlic Mushroom Chicken with Broccolli


Wednesday- Cheesy Chicken and Veggie Rice (I will be making a double batch)


Thursday- May the Fourth Be With You!

Tom and I will probably go out this night for dinner for an early birthday dinner date.

If you aren’t us, make these Vader Taters with some Baked or Grilled Chicken or a Steak.


Munch on some Padawan Popcorn!


Some Wookie Dough for dessert.


Friday- Cinco de Mayo

I will be making or ordering Tacos from somewhere.  No recipe needed in my opinion.

My husband makes a secret Taco Seasoning Blend that is pretty magical. If you would like some seasoning, email me back and I will send you some. We have a vat of it!

Saturday- Steak with Broccoli and Tomatoes


Sunday- Leftovers or Family Dinner

Happy First Week of MAY!

Dewey’s Readathon- April 2017

Readathon is here and as always it lands on a day where I am never prepared. I can’t seem to have one Saturday that doesn’t have a plan or a place to be. Regardless, I am excited about this Readathon.

Hour 1: I listened to Gone With The Wind as I got dressed and ready.

Hour 2: I continued listening as I went on a quick library trip, and I got donuts and coffee.

Hour 3: I visited my parents to pick up some of my old books to add to my TBR! I still kept listening to Gone with the Wind.

Hour 4: I drove home listening about the life and times of Scarlett O’Hara.

Hour 5: I am still listening and working on updating my instagram @onthebookside and this blog post.

Challenge 1: Introduction 

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

I am reading from the very sunny Sunshine State.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

I am most looking forward to reading The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?

I am most looking forward to all the drinks, especially Sugar Free Red Bull. 

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

I love readathons, despite never getting as much reading done as I would like. 

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?

This is at least my third Readathon. I have learned I need to try this time more intentionally. I will try to read at least for 45 minutes out of each hour.

24in48 Update

Hour 2

I ran some errands, including paying some library fines.

I started listening to The Reptile Room by Lemony Snicket. I have been doing a reread via audiobooks. I highly recommend The Series of Unfortunate Events audiobooks. They are theatrically narrated by the great Tim Curry.

I also started reading A Dog’s Purpose by W. Bruce Campbell.

Snacks: 2 slices of bacon

Hour 3

I continued reading A Dog’s Purpose and then had my daily tea time reading.

Each day at 3:30 PM, I read a little bit of a classic off of the Serial Reader app. Currently, I am working my way through Little Women and absolutely adoring it.

Snacks: Tropical Smoothie Rockin’ Raspberry Smoothie (no sweetener) and a cup of Curried Cream of Broccoli Soup

Here We Go for the 24in48 Readathon!


I am reading from the Sunshine State.

I have never done 24in48 before.

I think I first heard about this readathon on Twitter.

I am most excited to read The Gunslinger by Stephen King this weekend.

Each year, I resolve to read 100 books in a year. I have been trying since 2004 and not meeting my goal. I am hoping that participating in readathons will help me carve reading time into my schedule.

Hour 12 through Hour 13

Post nap, this was my first full read of the day. I read this picture book in honor of St. George’s Feast Day. This is an epic story of being defeated and rising up again. The illustrations in this book are amazing.

Currently Reading: Lumberjanes Volume 3!!!!!

I love the Lumberjanes. I was a Girl Scout in my youth and dreamed of going to a sleep away camp. Thus, this comic series is a nostalgic dream of mine. These ladies are awesome and pure fun. I am always excited to see what adventure lies ahead at this wacky camp. Jo is my favorite of the characters.

While eating dinner, I am still listening to The Tempest. I could listen to Sir Ian McKellen voice act forever.
